Welcome to Ricefield, the hub for Chinese creativity in Scotland

Ricefield is the hub for Chinese arts and culture in Scotland. It is the Glasgow meeting point for Chinese artists, musicians and designers. Within our Ricefield we provide the soil to nourish innovation within an intercultural environment where the best of China and Scotland come together.

Our aim is to nurture Chinese arts and culture within the Chinese community in Scotland, helping our members share their common heritage. Ricefield is also dedicated to share this great tradition with all the people of Scotland and to enrich the cultural life of our nation.

Lotus flower

In a season like this

by Mian Tze

In a season like this is Mian Tze’s series of oil paintings of lotus completed during her 2 years of residence in Glasgow, Scotland.

Lotus flower is a common subject matter for most Chinese painters and a significant symbol to the Chinese because of its ability to stay clean despite growing from muddy water. Similary, this collection bares the marks and gestures of Mian Tze’s emotional landscape as she gone through the difficulties and joy experienced in a foreign land. The changing colours of the seasons influenced her palette and bold strokes that spread across her canvases as she indulged in quiet dialogues with them.
