Welcome to Ricefield, the hub for Chinese creativity in Scotland

Established in December 2004, Ricefield Arts was founded by Lin Chau and Julia Hung, two prominent figures in graphic designing and printing in the Glasgow Chinese community, and is supported by members from diverse backgrounds in art, music and education who share the passions for Chinese arts.

A self-governing, non-political organisation, Ricefield Arts is committed to promoting cultural understanding and exchange in the increasingly diverse Scottish society. As such, while Ricefield Arts gears into nurturing Chinese art and culture within the Chinese community in Scotland, helping its members to embrace their common heritage, it is also dedicated to share this great tradition with all the people of Scotland, enriching the cultural life of our nation.

To achieve the above missions, Ricefield Arts focuses its activities on providing greater accessibility to Chinese arts through exhibitions, consultations, facilitating arts-related events such as dance and music performances, education outreach such as culture, language, art and calligraphy classes and workshops, establishing cross-cultural networks and working in partnership with other cultural organisations.

Financial supports from Glasgow City Council, Scotland United, Women into Enterprise, Glasgow Metropolitan College and Strathclyde Police, have enable Ricefield Arts to implement these activities.

Located in the Garnethill area of Glasgow city centre, Ricefield Arts’ proximity to the Chinatown and Chinese quarter, and the Glasgow School of Art, McLellan Gallery and the Centre of Contemporary Art reflects its status as the hub for Chinese arts and culture in Glasgow and Scotland as a whole. It is the meeting point for Chinese artists, musicians and designers.

The building houses a gallery in which exhibitions are held. It is conveniently situated within two minutes walk from Cowcaddens subway station. A number of regular bus routes run past our door and we are right next to Junction 17 of the M8.
